Give H.O.M.E.S

Hope, Opportunities, Motivation, Education, Support

Did you know that currently, there are

105,237 people in Australia who are homeless?

Did you know that within 3 days of living on the streets,

most women are sexually assaulted?

If you have a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep on and a place to call home, you're already living better than 40% of the population in New South Wales.

And isn't that just scary? That these things, are things we call basic necessities yet so many people all over the state don't have access to these things. And yet many will, and not have the ability to call a place home.

So what is homelessness?

home·less

1. Primary homelessness (or rooflessness). This category includes persons living in the streets without a shelter that would fall within the scope of living quarters;

2. Secondary homelessness. This category may include persons with no place of usual residence who move frequently between various types of accommodations (including dwellings, shelters and institutions for the homeless or other living quarters). This category includes persons living in private dwellings but reporting ‘no usual address’ on their census form.

And what we believe today, what is so unjust, is the stigma attached to homelessness. After interviewing a few individuals, the general census we received was that a homeless person, was "a man, smelly and with a beard who was intoxicated all the time."
Looking at this clause itself, which is a direct quote taken from an individual, it is so politically wrong on several levels.
The common stigma attached to homelessness, is that these individuals are intoxicated or addicted citizens that live along the streets of roads or train stations. And this is wrong.

This is where our campaign [Give H.O.M.E.S] starts. We hope to educate and raise awareness around the issue of homelessness, whilst motivating people to take action and support the basic needs of people within our community, who don’t have a place to call home.
We want to provide hope, generate opportunities, ignite motivation, intiate education and to be a bulwark of support.

And we're asking for your help.

Back this campaign now, and share it with all your colleagues/ friends.

Back helping to change the stigma surrounding homelessness.

Back social justice.
